Can the Realme GT 5G be an ideal flagship killer?

The Realme GT 5G – θήκες κινητών – is excellent in terms of performance and charging. With its low price it could be considered a flagship killer if it had better cameras. However, if you are looking for a mobile phone with impressive performance at a low price and you do not care about photography, the Realme  GT is one of the options you should consider.

Realme announced its flagship smartphone, the Realme GT, launched in March, but only in China. As of today, it was presented and will be available in Greece as well. As we already know the Realme  GT has the most powerful processor at the moment Snapdragon 888 and is the cheapest phone at the moment that has this processor as its price is 599 € but from 25/6 to 3/7 there will be a 100 € and you can get it only 499 €.

But to be a flagship killer he must be able to look the other high-end cell phones in the eye. We had the opportunity to have the device in our hands for a few days and we can say that it is a cheap mobile phone with many premium features but you will need to accept some compromises given its price. Let’s learn more in this evaluation.

Realme GT 5G Design

The Realme GT is a slim phone to hold in your hands as it is 8.4 mm (glass) / 9.1 mm (Vegan Leather) thick and quite light as it weighs just 186 grams and can be easily worked with one hand as it is relatively small . In general there are very few complaints about the build quality of the device, which is quite premium. The glossy back is protected by Corning 3D Gorilla Glass although it attracts a lot of fingerprints the version with the Vegan leather we have in our hands is quite beautiful, you will never see fingerprints on it while the yellow is not very bright to show ugly.

The black line that starts from the frame of the camera and reaches to the bottom is a nice touch and makes it look a bit racing. The back is curved and the camera frame protrudes slightly from the frame. The Realme GT 5Gis one of the few mobile phones to offer a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom. The standard Type-C port and speaker grille are also located on the bottom, and the handset doubles as a speaker to provide stereo sound. Finally, the volume up and power buttons are on the right and left respectively, offering the kind of simplicity you’d expect from a top phone.

Realme GT 5G Screen

At the front, there is a 6.43-inch FHD + AMOLED panel (which can be considered slightly smaller by today’s standards although many are looking for smaller phones) with a refresh rate of 120Hz. There is also a very good 360Hz touch sampling rate, while Realme claims full coverage of 100 percent of the DCI-P3 width color gamut. I can say for sure that the viewing experience in the Realme GT 5G is very equivalent to other 1080p screens in the category.

The color accuracy is correct with the kind of contrast ratios and deep blacks expected from a quality AMOLED panel. The 120Hz update is definitely very consistent in all applications and there was no visible lag for reference. The smart switch between 60Hz and 120Hz has been implemented to save battery. HDR support is available in Realme GT 5G.

Realme GT 5G Performance

The Realme GT 5G uses the top Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G that we see for the first time on a Realme mobile, and we find it in all high-end devices. Together with the Snapdragon 888, the 8GB LPDDR5 128GB internal storage and UFS 3.1 further enhance the overall experience. Also another variant of 12GB RAM / 256GB storage will probably come sometime in the summer.

All of this performance-related stuff is the best choice for an Android phone in 2021. The Realme  GT, at Antutu Benchmark, scores over 740,000, and the 3D Mark, at around 5800. On another benchmark, we obtained a result of 1142 points in the single-core test and 3703 points in the multi-core test. So, from all the results we mentioned, the GT achieved an equally high level of performance as the other snapdragon 888 phones and was even slightly better than most Android phones we have ever tried.

Realme  GT 5G Camera

The Realme GT 5G comes with a triple camera setting with a Sony 64MP IMX 682 main camera, an ultra-wide 8MP lens and a 2MP macro camera. For a flagship phone, however, instead of the macro, I would prefer a telephoto lens.

The main camera produces bright and vibrant colors with good dynamic range. The color contrast is high and the color gradient is relatively natural. The general images often showed a satisfying web style. All this of course in daylight. At night or indoors in low light the Realme GT camera finds it quite difficult to take good photos and in dark areas the noise in the photo is quite noticeable while if we zoom in there the photo appears with noise and the pixels stand out quite a bit.

Things are getting a bit better with Super Nightscape, which now includes a new pure raw night script algorithm to eliminate noise and further improve both the detail and the expression in the evening photos but by no means can we say that the Realme GT can compete with other flagships in the field of photography.
